January 10, 2017/The Sun Comes Up

The sun came up today.

Maybe it didn’t come up where you live, but the fact remains that whether we can see it or not the sun comes up.

Genesis 1:3-4: And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw the light that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

I love to read and one of my favorite authors was Terry Pratchett. I found Terry by accident after watching a partial part of the television movie HOGFATHER that I stumbled upon. I was fascinated by the person who could create such magic and I ran to the bookstore to buy the book that movie was based on. What a treat! Here was a man who had DEATH (who speaks in all capital letters) debating the philosophical points of humanity. Who had Sam Grimes as an ordinary policeman of the ‘Watch’ taking on evil in ways that astounded.

One of my favorite excerpts from HOGFATHER is one where death is speaking to his granddaughter Susan. To quote just a brief part: Susan: Now… tell me…
Death: What would have happened if you hadn’t saved him?
Susan: Yes.
Death: The sun would not have risen.
Susan: Then what would have happened?
Death: A mere ball of flaming gas would have illuminated the world.” quote from ‘Hogfather’ by Terry Pratchett.

He goes on to speak about belief. While Pratchett was more of an agnostic/athiest type, he understood religion means more than words. It has to do with belief.

Greet the sun today. Christians know that the sun will rise because the Son (Jesus) rose for us!

Oh, and that ball of flaming gas…humanity should give thanks every day for the miracle the Creator fashioned of a star of flaming gas that stays in place illuminating our world without frying us…
