April 14, 2017/Giving In to the Mob

Good Friday.

To many it is a day like any other.

We all know the story.

Some may even know the significance.

Today is the day when Jesus Christ was condemned, beaten, mocked, and crucified, and died on a cross. His body, already bloodied and broken, had a soldier pierce his side with a sword from which His blood and water flowed.

His mother, disciples, and others, including a mob who had bayed for the release of the common criminal Barabbas from Pilate were among witnesses to this event.

Luke 23:44-46-And it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. Matthew 27:46-And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? Matthew 27:50-53-Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his ressurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many,

The tearing of the curtain—The veil, a cloth which concealed the Holy of Holies in the temple, that symbolized the barrier between man and God since the very establishment of a temple is suddenly rent in two.

Earthquake, broken rocks-Terrifying events when experienced in any time, but when added to the timing of Christ’s death take on the miraculous rather than normalcy.

Disturbed graves and some risen saints-Were some dead bodies suddenly returned to physical life like Lazarus?

From the sixth to the twelfth hour–today from noon to three pm

Matthew 27-54-Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, TRULY THIS WAS THE SON OF GOD.

So where is the Christian church between noon and three pm today???

Are we at prayer? Or work?

Are our pastors IN the pulpit during these hours or are they APPEASING our ‘modern mobs’ who say, “I have to work,” and so change our services to a later hour to ‘accomodate’ those who cannot, or will not, make the effort to sacrifice even a tiny bit for their faith.

It is a symbol of just how far the Christian church in America has become lost.

Good Friday and the forthcoming holiday of Easter are two of the most HOLY days in the Christian calendar.

Isn’t it about time Christians stand for what they believe?

Just think, if every person who proclaimed themself a Christian began taking a vacation day, or taking off (even if unpaid) what would that sort of behavior say to a disbelieving world?

We are in an age of lukewarm churches. We have allowed ourselves by our silence and laziness to see our stand for Christ be watered into the ground…AND IT IS OUR OWN FAULT.

There is a battle coming.

It is not a battle of standard weapons.

It cannot be won by guns, tanks, lasers, or AI devices conceived by humans.

It is the battle for our very souls and the heart of Christianity itself.

It can only be won by Christians PRACTICING the message of Jesus Christ: LOVE, TRUST, and FAITH.

I beg my fellow believers to heed my warning. Good Friday is going the way of the world. In a few years, it will no longer be a ‘holiday’. It will go the same way as the reading of Scripture or prayer in the modern world.

All that is required is for Christians to stand for what they believe; to say, “I’m sorry. Christmas, Good Friday, and Easter, are my religion’s Holy Days and I cannot work.”

Are you willing to sacrifice so little for the Jesus Christ who sacrificed so MUCH for YOU on this day?

Where will you be today between noon and three pm?

At work? Or in prayer and meditation pondering the sacrifice our Lord made for YOU?
