I don’t watch many American television shows–although I live in the USA. I simply don’t care for most of them. But I’m savvy enough to listen to news about them when others speak,
One of the popular shows right now is one entitled: ‘The Walking Dead’ which from what I have heard has to do with a zombie apocalypse. I doubt that at my age I would be of much use for a zombie other than a food supply…then again, maybe they would need some of the wisdom that the elderly had acquired in order for them to survive?!
In any case, Christians have it on good authority that Jesus was not a zombie when He was resurrected. Luke 24: 36-48-And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I nyself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, she shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.
It would have been hard to get their minds around this. They had watched this man of God, their leader, the one they had confessed with their mouths was the Son of God, the Christ die.
They had seen Him buried. He had laid in the tomb.
The disciples had gathered to lick their wounds; to wonder how they would go on… IF they could go on.
Suddenly, there is news that Jesus had risen and was resurrected. Those disciples not with Mary and the women, or with Peter and John, were waiting hidden away. They were worried about their own safety.
They were in despair….then Jesus appears. He appears so clearly that they believe Him to be a ghost or apparition. They refused to trust what their eyes were telling them. Was this some kind of wishful thinking on their part?
Christ identifies Himself quickly. I AM HERE AMONG YOU. SEE ME. FEEL MY BODY TO REASSURE YOURSELF. He knows that even this may not be enough to convince them so he asks for something to eat to show that he has a physical body again.
It is hard to get your head around some of these events unless you step away from the picture and return to the place of the beginnning. Humans were not created to sin. God created us to walk with Him as personal, rational, moral beings that, while finite in nature, could commune with Him. Genesis 1:27-So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Jesus Christ has become the miraculous ‘new’ offering for sin.
That which was conceived of man and God and who never sinned, who is unjustly given as the Lamb sacrifice of the sin of all humanity, has closed the gap of the circle.
Our ‘Living Word’ has provided the testimony that death could not stop.
Unlike zombies, or vampires, or other fictional creations, there HAS been one who has conquered death and returned.
What’s more, He will come again.
The Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ will return again to gather His people to Him and stand with them befor God.
It would be well for some to worry more about His return….than that of the so-called ‘walking dead’…
